It's Jewriffic!
What
is the best Jewish book you're not reading? Go on, guess!
According to the editorial staff over at Jewsweek,
the answer to that question is none other than Rev.
Smith's own The
Brick Testament: Stories from the Book of Genesis.
What, did you think LEGO-illustrated stories from the
Old Testament would only appeal to Christians and atheists?
Oy vey, who do you think first wrote these stories?
I'll give you a hint: it wasn't the Christians. Also,
it was not the atheists. Did you know that 2004 is the
Year of the Jew? OK, I just made that up, but it sounds
pretty cool.

The
Brick Testament in The
Philadelphia Inquirer
Not
to be outdone by crosstown
rivals at the Philadelphia
Weekly,
the
city's largest daily paper The
Philadelphia
Inquirer today released a full-length
feature article on Rev. Smith's new book The
Brick Testament: Stories from the Book of Genesis,
whose LEGO versions of Bible tableaus it deems "devilishly
ingenious". The article attempts to glean some
insight on Smith's motivations, and looks at reactions
the book is getting from the public and from the LEGO
company itself.

Philadelphia
Weekly recommends Brick
Testament
The
Season's
Readings feature
in the current issue of the Philadelphia Weekly
includes write-ups of ten books recommended as great
Christmas gifts. Rev. Smith's newly published The
Brick Testament: Stories from the Book of Genesis,
whose painstakingly created tableaux of Old Testament
stories are "pretty amazing", is hailed as
"the perfect way to introduce your heathen children
to the Lord, or something like that." The feature
includes a photo of the cover of the book.

Flak
magazine feature on Brick
Testament
"Where
irony, Christianity and Legos coalesce to create a beatific
vision." Such is the lofty description of Rev.
Smith's Brick
Testament website
and book
in a feature article that can be found on the front
page of the current Flak
magazine website.
The article explores Smith's motivation behind creating
the Bible out of LEGO bricks and looks at the reaction,
both positive and negative, it is garnering from noted
theologians. "Love it or hate it," states
the article, "it will teach you more about the
Scriptures than a lifetime of attending church services
at half-attention."
