The Ultimate LEGO Vehicle Contest
ULV 4: 8 May 2004

Distance
Apparently nobody was snapping photos during this year's distance contest -- and who could blame them? It's slow-paced action with minimal destruction. But here's a photo taken later of third place finisher Mark's vehicle next to the tag marking his distance traveled:

OK, that's enough of that. Move along...

The Ski Jump
This year's ski jump event marked the first time that a majority of vehicles actually made it over the ramp. This may be attributable to the new sturdy and smooth sheet metal ramp made for this year's contest, or to the returning competitors' increased skillz at building vehicles that don't explode on impact with the ramp.

When even house car Gambles With Wolves made a successful jump, it had to be a good sign.

But nobody expected the house cars to do this well. Here House Car #4 flies off the ramp upside-down and at a crazy angle, to earn a second fourth place finish in a row.

Kathy's tribute to Jar Jar was one of the few vehicles that failed to clear the ramp.

And yet the aftermath was most pleasing to the eye.

Only the top half of Brendan's Zardoz clears the ramp, losing in mid-air it's right ear and both eyes.
(Note the yellow engine piece flying out from the eye socket. Gruesome).
