The Wrap-up
J-VEQ's first-place finish in the final event sealed his overall victory in the contest.

Post-contest decision
While there was no prohibition against it in the first ULV contest, several contestants later expressed that they felt that the use of string and or rubber bands to help power the car or secure the driver should be outlawed in future contests, and the new rule prohibiting them (except for purely decorative purposes) was put in place for the ULV II in 2001.
